Aera employees discuss the benefits of oil and gas as well as the planned East Cat Canyon project, with attendees at ExpoFest, held Sept. 5 at the Santa Maria Fairpark.

Aera joined 70 other local organizations showcasing their products and services and networking with the community at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce’s ExpoFest Sept. 5.

From their booth, Aera Ambassadors shared information about the oil and gas industry, including models of oil-processing facilities to educate attendees about Aera’s East Cat Canyon project.

Located southeast of Santa Maria, the oilfield redevelopment project is awaiting permit approval.

It will include 141 wells for oil production and a similar number for steam injection, observation and other uses. Aera’s project also will contain a new natural gas pipeline and electrical line.

Ninety-four percent of the project site will be unchanged or permanently preserved. In addition, a 500-acre Conservation Area will be dedicated to protecting wildlife and woodland habitat to and provide for outdoor recreation and environmental education.

This year’s ExpoFest marked the fourth time Aera has participated in the trade show.

“ExpoFest provides an opportunity for people to ask questions about the industry and learn just how interconnected they are to oil and products derived from oil,” said Rick Rust, Aera’s public affairs manager for Santa Barbara County. “People are really excited about the project and the benefits it will bring to the area.”

Oil and gas businesses drive a major part of the local economy, Rust added.
